Haripada Das envisioned what would later become Tripura Puppet Theatre in the year 1974. The decision was motivated by a wish to intertwine social welfare messages for residents of remote villages with the entertainment that came from the theatrical arts, and in 1974, he chose Puppetry as his instrument, a skill he had taught himself in the year 1956. The then-small group, funded by Haripada himself, was then called Tripura Amateur Puppet, and was a far cry from the fame and recognition it would later go on to achieve. Haripada Das would later be known for his masterful stage-lighting, skills in puppetry, and his vision for a matured Tripura Puppet Academy, a dream that was yet to be fulfilled before his untimely death in the year 1999.
PRABHITANGSU DAS currently serves as the secretary of TRIPURA PUPPET THEATRE, as well as the director and designer of its productions. A SANGEET NATAK AKADEMI AWARD awardee, Das is always in search of the next novel idea that he would incorporate in his future productions.
